Raymond EngleJust like I remember! Iwas papaw's BUDDY, we sat behind the counter at the store and he drew squirrels and rabbits on a "paper poke" and would always buy us a"Dope" to drink!!! Really miss those simpler times!!!!!
December 21, 2011 at 3:50 pm
Sandra EthridgeI remember going to Kty. on vacation each summer. The highlight was to sit in the store & listen to all the stories being told. At some point, before we left, I would always ask Grandpa if we could go thru his old trunk. Wow, the treasures that it held !!! Especially to a young child, kie myself. And least I forget, how much fun it was to sleep in that Feather bed !!!

Sandra EthridgeEspecially to a young child like myself. And when we packed up to go back home, Susan & I always got a penny polk of candy.

You sure are doing a great job of pulling all these old pictures out of the archives. I can hardly believe what you have found. It will take me forever to get these all copied and organized. I am so grateful you have done this for all your cousins to see.
December 15, 2011 at 10:39 pm
Daddy said when he was born Aunt Lizzie came to help his Mommy, Ellen Davis Morgan. She met Sam Morgan. He was grandpa William Ira's first cousin. Sam got to write Daddy's name in the Bible. He said he had written one if he never got to write another one.

I see "Grandmother Cook" on the top. What is her name?
December 15, 2011 at 5:32 pm
Is this a picture of Dr. Cook
December 16, 2011 at 7:45 pm
I don't see a resemblance of Mary Cook to either of these two ladies. Is "Grandmother CooK" referenced at the top of the page supposed to mean Mary Cook? Also, neither of these two men are Dr. Cook based on the pictures I have.
December 16, 2011 at 9:38 pm
Keith I agree neither of the two women look like Mary Cook but wouldn't we love to find out that one of the two men is Chesley Purkey ? Still searching for a picture of that guy.
December 16, 2011 at 10:16 pm
Keith, do you have a picture of Dr. Cook? I am also researching my family.
December 16, 2011 at 10:54 pm
Which Dr Cook, GW Cook or GM Cook. I have photos of GW Cook
December 16, 2011 at 10:57 pm
G.W. Cook.
December 16, 2011 at 10:59 pm
Acording to the back of the photo it is Grandmother Telitha Cook and Nannie Morgan
December 16, 2011 at 11:25 pm
Telitha Cook is my grandmother's aunt. If I am correct, her husband, John Wesley Davis and my grandma's father are brothers.
December 16, 2011 at 11:47 pm
John Wesley Davis' brothers and sisters are Mary E Davis, George B Davis, Delilah Davis, Henry Cyrus Davis, Susan Eveline Davis, James L Davis
December 17, 2011 at 12:08 am
My grandmother's father was Cy. Davis. I have a copy of a letter written by their Father, John L. Davis that he wrote to his wife during the civil war. He died at age 27 from consequences of the civil war in Vicksburg, Ms. (Again, if I am correct.)
December 17, 2011 at 12:29 am
John L. Davis was a private in Company F7 Regiment of the Kentucky Volunteers for the Union Army during the Civil War. He was discharged after being wounded in a famous battle at Vicksburg , Mississippi . He returned home to Whitley County, Kentucky and died of malaria fever at the age of 27 years old. He was buried at the Corinth Cemetery Corbin, Kentucky . Since John L. Davis was a Civil War soldier, Justina Armilda Davis received a mile square, 640 acres of land on Moores Creek (Kelly Branch Road) in Jackson County, Kentucky.
December 17, 2011 at 12:32 am
Thank you so much for all that info. It means a lot to me.
December 17, 2011 at 12:36 am
Were James and George the twin brothers who were killed in Louisiana ?
December 17, 2011 at 1:42 am
James and George was in 1872 and George was born in 1859 so it was them,
December 17, 2011 at 1:46 am
I'm getting my families mixed up.. John L Davis was the one with twin brothers killed in Louisiana - his brother Henry was also in the Civil War and made it home safe (does this match your info). The four brothers went in the service together (my info)..
December 17, 2011 at 1:56 am
Fred, I am just learning my Davis family history. Anything you or Tony could share would be a real gift to me.
December 17, 2011 at 9:32 am
Irene, where do you live? I have several pictures. You are more than welcome to anything I have.
December 17, 2011 at 10:27 am
Keith, I am in Waterloo, Iowa until the first of the year, In January we are coming home to Crab Orchard, Kentucky. My sister and I are coming to Jackson Co. sometime after that to meet with Ruth Morgan Combs and share some of our pictures, info, etc. If you have any pictures you can post on facebook in the meantime, I would truly enjoy it. Do you live in Jackson Co.?
December 17, 2011 at 3:35 pm
Irene, I don't have any pictures that Ruth Combs doesn't already have. Ruth is the best contact I know of. Yes, I live in Jackson County - about five miles from Ruth.
December 17, 2011 at 11:11 pm

December 24, 2011 at 9:39 pm
Thank you. What are your great grandpa and great grandma Mays names? Which lady in the picture did she identify as Margaret Hodge Cook? Is Dr. George Cook on the right?
December 29, 2011 at 10:37 am
I have always been told that Doc Cook's last baby he delivered was my dad in 1910. I believe they lived in the house that we referred to as the Mays house. I think Doc Cook died that same year.
December 29, 2011 at 8:32 pm
I would like to see a picture of Doc Cook if anyone has one.
December 29, 2011 at 8:32 pm
Dr.George W. Cook isn't in this picture. He died in 1910, at 83 y/o. I have a late life picture of him if I can figure out how to post it so it won't go out to everybody.
December 29, 2011 at 10:22 pm
I don't know who the men are in this picture but the woman with the glasses is Telitha Cook Davis. Dr. Cook's daughter, sister to Mary Cook Purkey.
December 29, 2011 at 10:59 pm
Keith I would love to see it. I don't know if you can post it without it being seen or not. Could you email it to me? He delivered my dad in 1910. They said he was the last baby he delivered. It's amazing to still be working at that age. I've heard my mom refer to him as old Doc Cook....don't know if that meant there were two Doc Cooks or if she was thought of him as being old.
December 29, 2011 at 11:08 pm
Keith, how is he related to you?
December 29, 2011 at 11:09 pm
You can load it and set the share with to custom, then set the names of those frends you allow to see it. The "Share With option is at the bottom righ conner of the photo.
December 29, 2011 at 11:17 pm
I've just posted it to my homepage. I tried to send it to the following Ruth, Kim, BJ, Tony and Iren. I may have to friend you for you to see it. If so, send me a friend request. Dr. GW Cook was my Great Great Great Grandfather.
