OK, someone. Help me with who Pauline Davis was. It is a name I have never heard.
June 30, 2012 at 10:51 pm
She was Uncle Willie and Aunt Nannie's Daughter she lived to about age 12 (1923 -1935)
June 30, 2012 at 10:55 pm
Thanks, Tony. I never knew her and never heard anyone speak of her.
June 30, 2012 at 10:56 pm
She had passed a few years before we were born.

If my memory serves me correctly Tony the little tulip motif whatnot shelf in the corner was sawed out by hand by our Mamaw Davis. She may have used a hacksaw as I recall but that was 60 years ago. More than likely it was a coping saw. I wonder what might have happened to them (I think she made two of them). When you are in the shop creating the beautiful wood projects you make you might want to remember where the genes came from.
June 30, 2012 at 10:50 pm
Emma must have gotten one of them.
July 8, 2012 at 7:27 pm
As I recall - your grandmother built her kitchen cabinets in the home where they celebrated their 50th anniversary. Guess you got your wood crafting talents from your dad and grandmother Tony !!

You really found some old pictures didn't you? I haven't seen these in years!! Ha!
June 30, 2012 at 7:49 pm
I may be ugly, but I came from a pretty family. LOL Actually I think I may have run out of your photos now.
June 30, 2012 at 7:51 pm
The funny thing is, I put out 30 - 40 photos, and yours is deep in the batch but is the first to get Likes, and draws the most checks. That should make you feel good. LOL
June 30, 2012 at 7:55 pm
Oh, that is funny!! They may just be making fun of me.. :)
June 30, 2012 at 9:48 pm
Yeah that must be it. LOL But it is more likely that you are a nice person and they like you. I don't know you, but if you are like your Mom and Aunts, then I am sure it is because they like you. You come from a line of fine women. Aunt Emma was so sweet.
June 30, 2012 at 9:57 pm
Yes, I am proud of my heritage... we have some good genes!! Mammaw Emma was as sweet as they come!
June 30, 2012 at 9:58 pm
By the way, Thanks for all your work on the photos. I understood you helped get some of the negatives printed.

Tony, this is Bessie and Woodrow (or Woodroe) Hacker. They were Ellen Steele Hacker's (Ma Hacker's) two oldest children. She must have loved her sister and your grandmother, Bessie Steele Davis, a lot to have named her firstborn daughter for her. Thanks so much for posting this sweet photo from days gone by!

You girls could have been movie stars.
July 1, 2012 at 8:08 pm
Glenda and I used to walk up and down the road at Bond from Bessie's (her grandmother) house to Ellen's (Grandmother Hacker's) house. I believe we went to the Tom Coffey Store at Bond, too. We were probably in 8th or 9th grade.

June 30, 2012 at 10:57 pm
Haha .. How did C.J. like her scarf?
June 30, 2012 at 10:59 pm
She wasn't unloaded from the car before she was showing it to her mother upon arrival here in VA. Does that tell you how she liked it. I always say actions speak louder than words (and she has many of those too). She loved it.
June 30, 2012 at 11:01 pm
Aww great!.. She is the sweetest kid. She will have to come stay with me sometime!
June 30, 2012 at 11:26 pm

Notice the sergeant stripes on Uncle Wes's fatigue jacket.
June 30, 2012 at 10:32 pm
That rank was Tech Sergeant. He must have been an engineer or Technical speciality.

June 30, 2012 at 7:36 pm

June 30, 2012 at 10:51 pm
June 30, 2012 at 7:36 pm
where is this
June 30, 2012 at 9:12 pm
I don't know where this is.
June 30, 2012 at 9:20 pm
It is a painting. It is sitting in Ruth Combs house. It is the old home place.
June 30, 2012 at 9:58 pm
This is pure conjecture based on some knowledge of how the pioneers often built their homes. I believe the right end was the original structure and the left end was added later. There may have even been two structures originally with an open breezeway between the two. This later would be boxed in to provide needed extra space. The right hand structure would be log and probably the left end as well. The clapboards were added when the breezeway was boxed in.
June 30, 2012 at 10:29 pm
Dorsey, you are correct. The right end is a cabin. Ruth Combs could give us the details.
