My Uncle Troy Hillard
August 4, 2012 at 12:11 am
Is Troy Hillard Merle Robinson's brother? She was my teacher, and also lived next door to me when I was growing up.
August 4, 2012 at 2:48 pm
He is my mother's brother. Oval, James, Ray, Thelma, but no Merle.

Billy Ray Davis ?
August 4, 2012 at 12:02 pm
Ruth Combs or Lowana Wyatt what do you think?
August 4, 2012 at 12:13 pm
I don't have a picture like this. I think his eyes look like Uncle Willie. He must be Billy Ray Davis like Freddy's comment.
August 4, 2012 at 1:21 pm
Anyone know these people??
August 4, 2012 at 12:10 am
May I post this on the Jackson Co website?
August 4, 2012 at 8:34 am
This is my first grade class. Ray Hillard is the cute little guy in the second row under the teacher's picture.
August 4, 2012 at 8:38 am
Yes, you may post it, and are you in this one Peggy? I knew Ray, but no one else.
August 4, 2012 at 8:43 am
I know all of them except four little girls and one little boy.
August 4, 2012 at 8:43 am
Yes, Tony. The last little girl in the 4th row with the crazy hairdo is me. My aunt had put hair rollers in it the night before, and after I had walked a mile in the morning fog to get to the bus stop, then bounced around at school for a couple of hours, it was a bit askew!
August 4, 2012 at 8:47 am
I love it. You are so cute. Thanks for telling, your hair looks normal to me. If the kids today walked a mile to catch a bus, they would look like road kill by the time they got to school. LOL
August 4, 2012 at 8:54 am

I posted the names of my picture recently but can't remember to who... and had a couple that you don't. I just can't put my hand on it now but will look again. I also think you knew a couple that I did not. The girl by Roger I think is the one I had Connie written on. The boy by Shirley Hignite is Darrell (?) Banks. I think I knew the girl in the third row too.
August 4, 2012 at 9:52 am
Is there a set of twins...row 2 #4 and row 4 #2?
August 4, 2012 at 10:04 am
MEARY ETTA WITCH OF BOYS IS KENNETH RILEY
August 4, 2012 at 10:35 am
WHITH BOY IS KENITH RILEY
August 4, 2012 at 10:38 am
Kenneth is at the end of the Top Row to the Right.
August 4, 2012 at 11:10 am
Rosita, I do believe that is Darrell Banks. I think I tried to block him out of my memory. The big boys on the school bus would tell him to sit with me, and I would get so mad! I would just sit there and pout and look out the window, while they all laughed. I was not romantically interested in him at all! So funny now, but not then! LOL!
August 4, 2012 at 11:37 am
Yes, Lucille, there is a set of twins.....Bernard Cornett's sisters, Joyce and Geneva. I think I got their names right. As they got older, I had no trouble at all telling them apart. Joyce had a slimmer face, and she smiled more than Geneva did.
August 4, 2012 at 11:39 am
The one you list as Patty Hughes, wouldn`t have been Patty Hurst (possibly married to Marvin Davis) Just a Wild idea. It is a long shot.
August 4, 2012 at 11:41 am
I don't think so, Tony. I don't remember any Hurst children attending Moores Creek. This little girl was Wanda Cunigan Hughes' daughter. Her uncle was Edsel Cunigan, our high school algebra teacher, and Paul Rose, our current Jackson County Tax Assessor, is her brother. I don't know what became of her or who she married, assuming she did get married.
August 4, 2012 at 11:48 am
I meant to say Paul Rose is her half-brother.
August 4, 2012 at 12:00 pm
Rosita, could the little girl after Roger McQueen be Clara Jane McGee? Did she start 1st grade with us? I remember a little girl named Wilma Truett, but I don't see her. She had pretty curly hair.
August 4, 2012 at 12:05 pm
Thanks, I knew is was probably not but had to ask.
August 4, 2012 at 12:16 pm
do you know if KENITH RILEY IS IN THE PITCHER
August 4, 2012 at 12:35 pm
Kenneth Riley is at the end of the Top Row to the Right.

August 4, 2012 at 5:12 pm
To whom every posted this I would like to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.. Your teacher was my grandmother Mrs.Ella Johnson I am Trixie Johnson McClure I would really love to have a copy of this because I am doing the family tree on Grannies side of the family and I have no pictures of her teaching or any other kind of photos except for the one I have taken myself. Please may I have any photos out there that anyone may have of my grandmother Ella Johnson and her school children it would mean the world to me please. Thank you so much Trixie Johnson McClure.
August 5, 2012 at 12:24 am
Aileen McClure, I sent you a copy through the FB message, I am very happy to see you enjoy it. That is what makes the restoration effort worthwhile. If there is anything else I can help with, just let me know. By the way, that is my Uncle Ray Hillard in the photo, second row, first little hansome fellow.
August 5, 2012 at 10:22 am
Hi Trixie! We were neighbors for many years. Mrs. Johnson was one of my teachers at Moore Creek and my Sunday School teacher.
August 5, 2012 at 1:17 pm
Tony, I can't seem to find where I put my photo like this, but I did find where I had sent you the names on 12/28/11. lst row by Roger Dale I did have Connie ?. 2nd row besides Ray Hillard I had Louise Whitehead. (Browning?). 3rd row is Shirley Grimes besides Steve Gilbert. Last row besides Allie Baker I have Judy Wilson and then Frances Abner (Grimes?). Next to the last I had ? Allen. Not sure I was right though. It was in script and obviously written later than 1st grade. AND my spelling was terrible!
August 5, 2012 at 3:57 pm
Rosita, Browning is Louise's married name. She did go by Whitehead when she was a little girl. I think her maiden name might have been Smith....not sure.
August 5, 2012 at 4:03 pm
Tony, I have tagged a few people. It looks like everyone is having a great time with this photo. Thanks so much for bringing back the memories. Rosita, I may be wrong about the name Frances Grimes. It could be Frances Abner. I may have been confused with Shirley Grimes and Frances. It has been a long time ago for my poor old memory to come up with these names.....Haha!
August 5, 2012 at 4:11 pm
Trixie, your grandmother got us all started off right. I wish I could share all the pictures of her with you that are "imprinted in my mind." Just a few quick ones: I can see a pencil tucked behind her ear as children stood by her side and read their little "Alice and Jerry" primer books. I can see her standing in the assembly room with her finger held up leading the singing of "This Little Light of Mine." I can see her standing in the little office selling ice cream and popsicles on a stick at recess.....and the list could go on and on.
August 5, 2012 at 4:20 pm
Peggy, how do you remember all this! Amazing!
August 5, 2012 at 9:15 pm
Rosita, did you have those names written on the photo? I thought you remembered them, too. Maybe I have a memory like a steel trap. I do have a lot of images stored in my mind. Doesn't everyone? I can't believe I didn't recognize Darrell Banks. I remember how Mrs. Johnson would have us to stand up and count, and Darrell would just say, "One".....and that was as far as he would go. I also remember what I did on the first day of school. I drew a three-dimensional box shape with each color of my new crayons on ten sheets of Bluehorse notebook paper, because I was bored and very upset that I did not learn to read that day!
August 5, 2012 at 9:23 pm
I only remember the room we were in in first grade, and like one moment from each of the other years. I am a very general thinker, and have always been amazed at my husband's detailed memory. You guys make very good speakers and writers... I still remember what you wrote for our class reunion that Bonnie put together. You really should be doing some serious writing....
August 5, 2012 at 9:32 pm
Well, thank you, Rosita. One more I have to share....I can remember some of the worksheets we did and many of the stories from the little reading books. I remember a worksheet with little "brownies" on it. The instructions said to color the first little brownie a certain color, and the second one another color, etc. (I think there were eight or nine of them.) Then it said to color the last little brownie "just like me." You were supposed to color it the same color as the clothes you were wearing that day. LOL....Am I weird or what????
August 5, 2012 at 9:38 pm
Oh, and I must add that Mom didn't save my papers either. To her, it was clutter, and she got rid of it. I only have one drawing that she saved.
